Dibrugarh, May 29: Chief minister Tarun Gogoi today lambasted the Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL) authorities for the delay in implementing the Assam gas cracker project.

An angry Gogoi — disturbed by an exclusive report in today’s edition of The Telegraph — snubbed senior officials of the BCPL during a review of the project at its site at Lepetkata this morning.

Later, talking to reporters at the additional circuit house here, the chief minister assured that the government would ensure that the project was commissioned within the specific timeframe.

“The gas cracker project is a prestigious one for not only the government but also the people of Assam. Therefore, we will not tolerate any kind of delay in commissioning the project,” Gogoi said.

“The BCPL authorities had highlighted some issues which will be taken care of, but that does not mean that we will allow dilly dallying with the project,” the chief minister added.

Earlier, Gogoi arrived at the Dibrugarh University playground on a chopper from Jorhat and reached the project site around 10 this morning.

Senior BCPL officials, led by managing director J.K. Singh Teotia, briefed the chief minister on the progress of the project work.

Sources said Gogoi was apparently annoyed with the delay in construction as only 16 per cent work had been completed within the first 38 months of the project.

“If required, we will appoint a senior official from the government to ensure that the progress of work is not hampered,” the chief minister said.

Gogoi also urged all organisations and the people to come forward with a helping hand and positive mindset to ensure that the project was completed within the specific timeframe.

“Labour is a major issue. We will have to settle this at the earliest, he added.
