Itanagar: The People's Party of Arunachal (PPA) on Saturday accused the state government, headed by chief minister Pema Khandu, of resorting to corrupt practices while distributing work to the districts under the untied funds.
Leader of Opposition and Palin MLA Takam Pario told reporters here that the government had allotted untied funds of more than Rs 200 crore for various works to be completed within a month in 22 districts of the state.
"How can you allocate such a huge amount in a month? Moreover, how can you complete the work within a month? This is clear corruption by the government which the people of the state are unaware of," he said.
Untied allocation of more than Rs 200 crore for work has been allocated to various districts for the 2017-18 fiscal and the highest amount has been allocated to Namsai, the Assembly constituency of deputy chief minister Chowna Mein. Namsai has been allocated Rs 29.16 crore for various developmental works, Pario said.
"Will the funds allocated be used or be returned to the exchequer if work is not completed within March? The money has been allocated for the 2017-18 fiscal that has less than a fortnight to end," he said.
Pario said there is hue and cry among the contractors who have not been paid for the work finished till date. The government should have cleared the payment before allocating such huge funds for various works, he added.
Pario urged the people of all districts where the funds have been allocated to keep a watch on the quality of work. He also requested the minister and district deputy commissioner concerned to monitor the work quality and ensure that public money is not misused.
"We tried to raise a similar question on corruption in the state in the name of development when my microphone was turned off during the budget session. We are in support of development in the state only when the government gives priority to the people, equality and no discrimination in work allocation," PPA legislator Tanga Byaling said. "Why is Namsai being allocated the highest amount when other districts are allocated so less?" he asked, seeking funds utilisation statements and bills paid to the workers from the government by the end of March.
