Four arrested for teacher's suicide

Three persons were arrested from Dhubri and another from Nalbari on Friday for allegedly abetting the suicide of a teacher from Mariani in Jorhat district on March 25.

Dhubri: Three persons were arrested from Dhubri and another from Nalbari on Friday for allegedly abetting the suicide of a teacher from Mariani in Jorhat district on March 25.

Deputy superintendent of police (railway) Dipankar Lahakar (Lumding rail division) said Nazir Uddin Seikh, a shopkeeper, Sohel Uddin Ahmed and Sahel Nawaz Khandokar were arrested from Dhubri town while Rizul Sheikh was arrested from Nalbari district. "On the basis of allegations of the deceased's family and evidence recovered from the deceased, we have registered an FIR against the accused under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of IPC," he said.

Ribul Phulmali, a TET teacher in a sar area of Dhubri since 2012, had jumped in front of a train in Mariani. Lahkar said he posted a suicide note on his Facebook wall minutes before his death, alleging that a few persons in Dhubri town, where his wife and son resided, had made obscene videos of her. They then blackmailed him, compelling him to commit suicide.

The Dhubri unit of AASU dismissed Sohel Uddin, its anchalik president, from all portfolios after his arrest.
