Golaghat: The Bureau of Investigation of Economic Offences (BIEO) on Saturday arrested forest ranger Mukul Ali Hazarika for alleged dereliction of duty.

On December 5 last year, deputy chief conservator of forest, Kunja Hazarika, had lodged an FIR alleging that Golaghat divisional forest officer Rajiv Das, forest ranger Praneswar Das and Abdul Hasmat, a contractor, were issuing duplicate stock depot challans and permits for illegal operations. "Hazarika was the then the Bokial forest beat officer. He was responsible for not collecting the used transit challans and other documents," a BIEO inspector said.
