Football camp in Silchar

Hailakandi, April 17: A seven-day football coaching camp for under-15 and under-19 boys has been under way since Tuesday at Silchar Football Academy ground.

Chief of Haryana’s Panasonic Football Academy, Ruhit Parashar, is training the players in two shifts. The under-15 boys are trained in the morning while the under-19 team takes the field in the evening shift.

The former secretary of Silchar District Sports Association, Dilip Nandi, inaugurated the camp. Former footballer Himendu Sengupta attended the inaugural function as the chief guest.

Secretary of the academy, Sithil Dhar, said they have picked up 35 boys from different football academies of Barak Valley on the basis of their performance in the Prabhat Chandra Nath Football Championship held in Silchar in January.

School cricket: Fairyland High School and Shrimanta Shankar Academy registered convincing wins in their respective matches of the Nabin Chandra Tamuly Inter-School Cricket Tournament organised by the Guwahati Cricket Coaching Centre at Nehru Stadium here today.

In the first match Fairyland beat Gurukul by 68 runs. In the second match Shrimanta Shankar Academy beat Assam Jatiya Bidyalay by 10 wickets.
