Guwahati, Aug. 24: Former Ranji player and two-time secretary of the Assam Cricket Association, Nandan Bezbaruah, who had been suffering from kidney ailments, passed away in a private hospital here this evening.

He was admitted to the hospital on August 16. Bezbaruah is survived by his wife and two sons.

In his first class cricket career spanning 14 years (1966 to 1980), Bezbaruah played 16 Ranji matches tallying 382 runs in 31 innings. He also captained Assam in a few matches. After his career as a player, Bezbaruah was the joint secretary of the Assam Cricket Association in 1987 and was elected secretary in 1992. He held the post till 1995. He was elected again to the post in 2000 and continued in office till 2002.

The Assam Cricket Association condoled his demise and announced an official mourning for three days.

The BCCI has sanctioned an ex gratia grant of Rs 50,000 to Bezbaruah through the ACA. Besides, ACA president Gautam Roy has committed payment of all the medical expense borne by the family during his treatment.
