Guwahati, April 3: Delhi Public School tamed Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti by 10 wickets in the inaugural match of the 2nd Dinendra Nath Gohain and Dharmendra Sarmah inter-school (under-16) cricket tournament that got under way at the Janata Bhawan Parade ground here today.
The Sarala Birla skipper won the toss and elected to bat. His decision, however, backfired as the DPS bowlers tore through the Sarala Birla line-up and the team was bundled out for a modest total of 98 in 19.5 overs.
In reply, the DPS boys achieved the target in just 6.2 overs with all their wickets in hand.
Chiranjeev Gogoi of Sarala Birla made a defiant 39, while Vishal Agarwal added 31 more runs with his bat. The rest of the batsmen surrendered meekly. Akshay Narain of DPS hauled four wickets for 20 runs. Dhrubajeet Kalita and Abhinav Buragohain picked up two each for 13 and 17 runs respectively.
For DPS, Hrishikesh Tamuli made a hurricane 59 facing only 26 deliveries and Dhritiman Dutta chipped in with a run-a-ball 15. Both the batsmen remained undefeated. Akshay Narain of DPS was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Tomorrow, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Khanapara, will play Sanskriti — The Gurukul and South Point High School will clash with Maharishi Vidya Mandir.
