Guwahati, Dec. 17: A young doctor was found murdered and his body dumped near Deepor Beel on the outskirts of the city.
Amir Hussain, 30, was associated with the Kukurmara public health centre in Kamrup district. He hailed from Kandulimari village under Chaygaon police station of the district. According to police, Hussain used to stay at a rented house at Sijubari in the city and practised in a private clinic, apart from his hospital duties. He was staying here for higher studies.
Sources at Gorchuk police station said the doctor went missing soon after he went out to see a patient last evening and his body was found this morning. There were injury marks on his left ears and parts of the body.
“We found the body with a muffler wrapped around his neck and there was clear mark of strangulation. Preliminary investigation indicates he was murdered by more than one person,” the source said.
The body was identified by his family members who said three to four persons had taken him out of Munni Clinic at Sijubari to see a patient around 6pm on Friday. Since then his mobile phone was found switched off and people at Deosotal near Deepor Beel recovered his body around 5am.
The police said an investigation was on to trace the persons behind the crime. The Junior Doctors’ Association of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital condemned the killing and demanded a speedy probe to nab those involved in Hussain’s murder. “He was requested by some persons to attend to a patient somewhere. He was found dead in the morning. So we demand a speedy inquiry and arrest of those involved,” general secretary of the association Kaushik Bhuyan Keot said.
