Guwahati, Nov. 10: Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi today said the World Bank has “in principle” agreed to consider a fresh Rs 12,000-crore mega project for the state.

In a meeting to review the status of implementation of various schemes under the Assam Agricultural Competitiveness Project (AACP) here, Gogoi said the new project — Assam Agricultural Commercialisation and Rural Transformation Project — is under Assam Rural Infrastructure and Agricultural Services.

Dispur submitted the project to the Centre on June 4. The proposal has been cleared by the ministry of agriculture and is now with the Planning Commission.

Gogoi urged the officials of the departments concerned to replicate the successful interventions of AACP in the normal departmental schemes. He asked all the officers to complete the remaining work under the project, including accelerating the disbursement and timely execution of contract immediately.

Appointed

Dispur has on Monday appointed M.K. Das, labour officer, Goalpara, as employee compensation officer in Bongaigaon district under the provision of Section 20(1) of the Workmen’s Compensation Act, 1923, until further orders.

Press Day: The directorate of information and public relations of the Assam government will observe National Press Day on November 16 at Bihutoli in central Assam’s Morigaon district.
