Dance fest enthrals audience

The concluding day of two-day festival witnessed by Vinod Kevin Bachan, Ranjana Gauhar and Anwesa Mahanta

The 11th edition of the Pragjyoti International Dance Festival (PIDF) ended at Sri Sri Madhavdev International Auditorium of Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra here on Saturday with performances and discussions.

The concluding day of the two-day festival witnessed Odissi performance by Vinod Kevin Bachan from West Indies, disciple of well known Odissi Guru Ranjana Gauhar, Mohiniattam by renowned scholar, practitioner and Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva awardee Methil Devika and a xattriya dance performance by scholar Anwesa Mahanta.

Prior to the performances, the evening session featured a panel discussion, Pay and Perform: A Banal Trend in Indian Classical Dance Communities; Challenges and Perspectives, among eminent art personalities, artistes, scholars and the audience. Ashok Jain, Anita Sharma, Marami Medhi and Meernanda Borthakur were participants in the session moderated by Shrinkhla Sahai and coordinated by xattriya danseuse Seetarani Hazarika.

The first day of the PIDF, organised by Kalpa in collaboration with Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Kri Foundation and Sangeet Natak Akademi, saw rendition of Pung Cholom by artistes of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal, Bharatanatyam by Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar awardee Lakshmi Parthasarathy Athreya and Kathak by Sangita Chatterjee.
