Digital campaign: Assam PCC president Ripun Bora on Thursday joined the nationwide Speak Up India digital campaign by the Congress and stepped up the demand to provide Rs 7,500 financial assistance to every poor family in the country.

Bora said, “As the lockdown was imposed in an unplanned manner, the country has witnessed a huge economic blow and several families are facing a financial crisis. There are families in rural areas that are out of food.”

He added that to deal with the deteriorating economic situation, the government much provide Rs 7,500 for six months to each poor family affected by the Covid-19 lockdown in the country to meet their basic requirements. The government should also release Rs 10,000 of the principal amount as early as possible to provide immediate relief to the families.

Bora added, “We have noticed that the BJP is playing dirty politics. We have seen that whereas in BJP-ruled areas they are appointing BJP MLAs as chairperson of the quarantine centres, in constituencies with Congress MLAs they appoint a co-chairperson who apparently is a member of the BJP itself.”

He added that in terms of selecting beneficiaries of similar schemes, the BJP is appointing its representatives in several places though the particular places had Congress members as elected representatives.
