Guwahati: The Assam PWD (national highways), under the direction of chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, has terminated the contract of M/s Wadia Techno-Engineering Services Ltd on grounds of alleged non-performance.

It has also blacklisted the company following allegations of forgery involving a project to connect Majuli with Jorhat and Lakhimpur through a bridge here.

For construction of the bridge over the Brahmaputra connecting Majuli, the world's largest river island, with Jorhat and North Lakhimpur, the state government had awarded contracts to M/s Wadia Techno-Engineering Services Ltd and M/s Yooshin Engineering Corporation, South Korea, in January to carry out a survey to prepare detailed project reports (DPR).

However, M/s Wadia Techno-Engineering Services Ltd could not make any headway towards preparation of the DPR.

Moreover, M/s Yooshin Engineering Corporation, South Korea, alleged that the other firm had forged its signature to show its participation in the project, according to the chief minister's office.

The PWD (NH) under the direction of chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal terminated the contract with M/s Wadia Techno-Engineering Services Ltd and filed a complaint with Chandmari police station for an inquiry into the forgery case.

The PWD (NH) then floated a fresh tender, the chief minister's office said.

The proposed bridge will be 110km long and will be connecting Disangmukh in Sivasagar, Tekeliphuta in Lakhimpur and Nematighat in Jorhat district.

Sonowal has directed the PWD (NH) to pursue the pending case so that appropriate action can be initiated against the erring company.
