Kohima, May 18: The Congress today made it clear that Nagaland home minister Imkong L. Imchen will be held solely responsible if anything goes wrong with the Joint Legislators Forum, formed on the Naga political issue.

Nagaland PCC president Sungit Jamir said the state home minister had been accusing the Congress of not being interested in resolving the Naga political problem and cautioned that if anything goes wrong, then Imchen should be solely responsible.

The forum was formed after a great deal of consultations with the Opposition Congress and the party agreed to be part of it with the 60 elected members of the Assembly, irrespective of political parties.

But the Naga People’s Front (NPF), the main constituent of the ruling Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN), continued to accuse the Congress of being against resolving the Naga political issue.

However, Sungit Jamir said the Congress was a responsible party, it had an open mind on the Naga political issue.

He ruled out walking out of the forum but said they would raise queries to the NPF during the meeting of the forum.

“It would depend on how many queries they would be able to answer,” he told The Telegraph.

Imchen even threatened Sungit Jamir of legal action for stating that he (Imchen) or anyone from his bloodline did not participate in the Naga political struggle.

Sungit Jamir said because of the “crazy statements” by the home minister, the Congress would not ignore the matter.

“You ask the NPF. Let it first spell out its stand,” the leader of the Congress legislature Party (CLP), Tokheho Yepthomi, told The Telegraph.

He said the Congress’s stand was clear and that it would not deviate from its stand on the Naga political issue.

Irked by the repeated accusations by Imchen that the Congress was against resolving the Naga political issue, the CLP leader said he had conveyed to chief minister Neiphiu Rio through the Speaker of the Assembly to ask the home minister for an explanation.

He said Imchen on December 14 had stated that the Congress was against resolving the Naga political issue.

Yepthomi said his party had asked for convening of meeting of the forum but till date there has not been response from the government.

“They not convening a Joint Legislators’ Forum even after three or four months,” the Congress leader said.

“We will try to give appropriate answers when the time comes,” Yepthomi said.

On seven days notice issued to Sungit Jamir by Imchen, he said the home minister was trying to divert the issue rather than explaining to the people the contributions made by his bloodline.

He rejected the notice and said the Congress would not remain idle and vowed to take appropriate measures to counter such an approach.
