Militant arrested

Chandmari police arrested Dipu Baruah, a hardcore Ulfa militant, from Paltan Bazar on Tuesday night. The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup, on Wednesday remanded him in police custody for five days.

Trained in Bhutan, Baruah was released from Jorhat jail on bail a year ago. Since then, he is suspected to have been visiting different places for the outfit’s activities.

Protest

The NF Railway Mazdoor Union on Wednesday joined a nationwide protest against non-fulfilment of various demands of railway employees.

Felicitation

Media Trust, Assam, will felicitate 100 senior journalists of the state on April 29.

Building list

The GMC and GMDA will submit the list of multistoreyed buildings constructed during last 10 years to the Gauhati High Court on Thursday.

GMC flayed

The All Guwahati Students’ Union (AGSU) has criticised the municipal corporation for not clearing clogged drains, leading to waterlogging in several areas after the recent rains.

Demolition

The enforcement wing of GMC on Tuesday demolished an illegally constructed floor of a building in Ganeshguri.

The annual conference of Postgraduate Students’ Union, Gauhati University, was held recently.

Health camp

The Noonmati Students’ Union and Guwahati Refinery jointly organised a free health check-up camp at Sonapur recently.
