Cash looted
• Dhemaji, July 29: Two motorbike-borne youths today looted Rs 2.69 lakh in cash from Pitambar Bhujwel in front of State Bank of India, Balipara branch, in Sonitpur district. Bhujwel, after drawing the cash from the bank, was on way to his business establishment when one of the youths snatched the money. while one youth was caught by onlookers and handed over to police, the other managed to escape with the cash.
Traffic drive
• Guwahati: City police, during a special drive to check traffic obedience among citizens here on Saturday, detected 313 vehicles without the high security number plate and 20 modified bikes which did not comply with the pollution norms.
NGO claim
• Guwahati: City based NGO Zublee Foundation alleged lack of proper medical facilities for organ transplantation which in turn deprives those willing to donate their organs.
Fire
• Tinsukia: Five houses were gutted in a major fire at Paltan Bazar in Dibrugarh town of Assam on Saturday. No loss of life was reported.
Ganja trader
• Guwahati: A Guwahati-based "wanted" ganja trader, Mala Barua, 42, was apprehended from her house in Kalibari Railway Colony here around 11am on Saturday. She was arrested under section 22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and sent to judicial custody.
Flood camp
• Guwahati: The Assam fire and emergency service department and civil defence personnel organised a health camp in Chandrapur, on the outskirts of the city, on Saturday for the flood-affected people of the area.
Warning
• Guwahati: The Doyang hydro electric plant of Neepco at Wokha in Nagaland has asked the Golaghat deputy commissioner to inform people staying in the downstream area of the dam that the water level of Doyang reservoir is rising rapidly because of incesssant rain in the catchment areas.
Drive
• Guwahati: City police during a special drive detected 313 vehicles without the high security number plate and 20 modified bikes that did not comply to the pollution norms. The department also realised Rs 85,300 fine during the drive.
Protest
• Tinsukia: The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Parishad protested against the numerous electrocution deaths in the state and burnt the effigy of Assam power minister Pallab Lochan Das at Tinkonia here on Saturday.
Majuli meet
• Dhemaji: The Majuli district administration, to prepare for its first district-level Independence Day celebration, held a meeting in the deputy commissioner's office conference hall on Saturday.
Khandu visit
• Dhemaji: Arunachal Pradesh chief minister, Pema Khandu on Saturday visited the new government college in Tawang and inspected the facilities on its campus. The college is now functioning from its temporary campus at Tsangyang Gyats stadium and government primary school.
Liquor deaths
• Imphal: Two middle-aged men died after drinking spurious country liquor sold at Oinam Saombung in Bishnupur district of Manipur while more than 30 people were admitted to different hospitals here.
