Guwahati, July 12: Dispur today appointed Prateek Hajela, commissioner and secretary, home and political department, as the nodal officer for preparation of the National Population Register to carry out or assist the operations in the state.
12 arrested
Jorhat: Dibrugarh district excise department arrested 12 people involved in manufacture and sale of illicit liquor in Hiloidhari and Bongal Gaon areas of Dibrugarh and seized 175 litres of the liquor.
Section 144
Jorhat: The district administration has imposed Section 144 CrPC, restricting sand mining in Upor Deori Gaon under Jorhat West revenue circle with immediate effect and until further order.
Camps
Jorhat: Residential chemistry camps for students under Yusuf Hamied Inspirational Chemistry programme by the Royal Society of Chemistry, India, in association with the CSIR-North East Institute of Science and Technology and Kaziranga University, has begun here and will also be held for 80 government teachers from Thursday.
Memorandum
Dhubri: Dhubri citizens submitted a memorandum to deputy commissioner Nazrul Islam, urging intervention to stop the transfer of doctors to their original place of posting in the village PHCs, as directed by the state health department. Doctors were being transferred from Dhubri civil hospital which would further create a shortage of doctors, the memorandum said.

Dhubri: A team of forest officials from Sapatgram in Dhubri district, led by beat officer Anisul Islam, seized sal timber logs valued at Rs 3 lakh from Sankosh river while they was being transported under the cover of darkness on Monday night.

Dhubri: Chagolia police of Dhubri district seized a truck laden with cough syrup and arrested the driver early on Tuesday.
