Biren opens health centre

Imphal: Manipur chief minister Biren Singh on Wednesday inaugurated a primary health centre with staff quarters and a rural market shed at Tumukhong Moirangpurel in Imphal East under Andro Assembly constituency.

The inauguration featured among those scheduled for Inaugural Fortnight in connection with completion of one year of the BJP-led government in the state. The Biren Singh-led government is completing a year on March 15.

The PHC and staff quarters were constructed by the District Rural Development Agency, Imphal East.

The rural market shed was constructed by the state horticulture and soil conservation department.

Biren Singh said an education scheme for the children of underprivileged families of the state will be launched within March 15.

Under the new scheme, the state government will bear all the expenses of books, admission fees and uniforms in Classes IX and X.

In view of the hardships faced by sand quarry workers of Tumukhong, Itham, Moirangpurel and nearby villages because of the construction of the Thoubal dam, the chief minister said the government is considering their rehabilitation.

He asked the Imphal East deputy commissioner to prepare a list of workers of these villages so that they can be provided with an alternative livelihood. The chief minister said Rs 7 crore had been sanctioned to construct the Itham Moirangpurel bridge.

He said he would make all efforts to upgrade Moirangpurel Government High School to a higher secondary school.

Moreover, Rs 6 crore had been kept aside in the state budget for the next fiscal to revamp the road from the Napet Palli to Thoubal dam site. Altogether 120 projects will be inaugurated within March 15.

Biren Singh had said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the state for the inauguration of the 105th Indian Science Congress to be held here on March 16. Union home minister Rajnath Singh is likely to attend.

The Thoubal multipurpose project and Maphou dam will also be inaugurated during Modi's visit.
