BCCI word on financial aid to NE states

BCCI chief financial officer Santosh Rangnekar has assured officials of the North East States Cricket Association that the cricket body will provide all financial aid and guidance on time in the future.

Imphal: BCCI chief financial officer Santosh Rangnekar has assured officials of the North East States Cricket Association that the cricket body will provide all financial aid and guidance on time in the future.

Rangnekar said this during an orientation course on financial management and accounting procedure for treasurers, accountants, auditors and other officials of the region.

The course was organised by the BCCI and hosted by Assam Cricket Association (ACA) at Vivanta by Taj here on Monday.

Rangnekar explained the course's outline and underscored the importance of proper financial discipline.

He said it's important to adhere to the BCCI guidelines, particularly by the North East Area Development Programme states that are likely to become permanent members soon.

The four-member BCCI team, headed by Rangnekar, included Anand Uttamani, Rochit Mehrotra and Nikhil Khanna.

Twenty-three delegates from the region states attended the course.

Uttamani spoke on how the BCCI operated in coordination with the associations, while Mehrotra dwelt on the nature of payment to associations and taxation.

Khanna spoke on the nature of payment and infrastructure subsidy.

Naba Bhattacharje, honorary secretary of the Meghalaya Cricket Association and a New Areas Development Programme member of the BCCI, stressed on the need to inculcate the habit of strict financial and accounting procedure since managing finances is a challenge for the NADP states.

He also lauded the prompt initiative of the CFO to his suggestion for conducting the important course.

Manipur Cricket Association (MCA) secretary S. Priyananda said, "We have been enlightened after the discourse today. There is a need to understand the financial disciplines of the BCCI as we are inching closer on becoming full members soon."

Along with Priyananda, L. Binoy Singh, other officials like Rakesh Kumar Jain and Tommy Thingom, represented the MCA in the orientation programme.

Munindranath Saikia, treasurer of the ACA, welcomed the resource persons and delegates while Pradeep Buragohain, secretary of the association gave a brief overview of the course.

The resource persons were also feted with the Assamese gamosa and horai.

A five-day orientation programme for curators for the North East States Associations will start on Tuesday.
