Bagmibar beat Sacred Heart

Dibrugarh, April 26: Bagmibar Nilomoni Phukon Higher Secondary School beat Sacred Heart School by 21 runs while Sishu Niketan defeated Jyoti Vidyapeeth by 59 runs in the opening matches of the Patiram Das memorial Dibrugarh district inter-school cricket tournament.

The tournament, organised by the Dibrugarh District Sports Association and the District Sports Office, got under way at the association’s outdoor stadium here today.

In the first match, Bagmibar won the toss and decided to bat. The team was bundled out for 88 in the stipulated 20 overs. Asif Ahmed (13) and Azad Ahmed (12) were the main contributors. For Sacred Heart, medium pacers Gautam Sarmah and Asif Khan took four wickets each.

In reply, Sacred Heart were all out for 67 runs in 13 overs. Saukat Ali top scored with 20. Bagmibar bowler Jayanta Hazarika picked up three wickets.

In the second match, electing to bat first Sishu Niketan scored 114 in 19.5 overs. Bitupan Gogoi and Pranjal Phukon were the top scorers with 19 runs each. For Jyoti Vidyapeeth, Sarupam Borgohain took three wickets. In reply, Jyoti Vidyapeeth were packed off for a paltry 55. Phukon took four wickets for eight runs.

The association’s general secretary, Munindra Nath Saikia, inaugurated the meet.

In tomorrow’s matches, Dibrugarh Government Boys Higher Secondary School will take on Dibrugarh University Model School and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Duliajan, will play against Niranjan Children Home.

Tinsukia school meet

In a Kamaluddin Ahmed Hazarika memorial inter-school cricket (U-17) match organised by the Tinsukia District Sports Association at its ground today, Hindusthani Kendriya Vidyalaya, Laipuli, beat St Stephan’s High School, Tinsukia, by 49 runs.

In the rain-affected match, Kendriya Vidyalaya won the toss and decided to bat. The team posted 126 for eight in 18 overs. Ved Prakash scored 46 while Rohit Ojha made 31. In reply, St Stephan’s were bundled out for 77 in 13.1 overs.

Naba Chetna Adarsha Vidyapeeth will take on Tinsukia Academic House in a U-14 match tomorrow.
