Guwahati; Oct. 17: An executive member of the BJP and former minister of Assam government, Atul Bora, today sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to take an initiative to hand over the inquiry of Jogdol murder case to the CBI.

Bora has written to Modi that Assam social welfare minister Akon Bora was involved in the incident where one Harakanta Doley, his wife, their three children and one nephew were beheaded by unidentified assailants in 2009 at Jogdol near Guwahati.

He told Modi that the murder was perpetrated to grab land for the construction of a five-star hotel.

“The bodies were thrown into the campus of Heart City (a hospital-cum-research centre) run by a very well known surgeon, Dhaniram Baruah. The motive behind the crime soon came to light and the subsequent incidents revealed that it was perpetrated to provoke the public against Baruah and his hospital so that he would be forced to close it down and leave. And a five-star hotel could be built in its place,” the letter said.

“It also came to light soon afterwards that the mastermind behind the beheading of six persons was none other than the state social welfare minister Akon Bora. Bora represents Dispur Legislative Assembly constituency and the Jogdol murder was committed within his constituency. Because of Akon Bora’s involvement in the crime, the investigation into the murder has been interfered with and derailed several times, and even after four-and-a-half years the investigation has made no real progress,” Bora said.

Talking to reporters, Bora, who had also represented Dispur constituency for 15 years, today said several organisations of different indigenous communities have been demanding a CBI inquiry into the incident.

“I have written to the Prime Minister as people of Dispur constituency requested me to bring the matter to his knowledge,” he said.

Bora said chief minister Tarun Gogoi has turned a blind eye to the incident.
