Dec. 26: The Athgaon railway flyover will be finally opened for traffic in the first week of January next year after five years of wait.
Minister of state for planning and development, Himanta Biswa Sarma, said finishing touch is being given to the flyover to make it ready for inauguration in the ?very first day of the New Year?.
The completion of the 626.4-metre-long single-lane Athgaon flyover connecting Paltan Bazar with Bharalumukh will bring cheers to residents of Kumarpara, Shantipur and other parts of west Guwahati.
Though there are apprehensions that the narrow service roads, inadequate drainage system and permanent closure of the Athgaon railway level-crossing may create new problems once the flyover is opened, the minister allayed the worries.
Sarma further said chief minister Tarun Gogoi would lay the foundation stones of two other flyovers on GS Road and GNB Road in the first week of February.
