Guwahati, Aug. 10: The portals of Assam Tourism and Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) will be amalgamated into one comprehensive website to provide browsers more clarity about the role of the tourism department and the corporation.
"Till date, we have had two websites - one of Assam Tourism and the other, www.assamtourismonline.com#, is the ATDC portal. However, we are amalgamating the two into one comprehensive website, which is in its final stages and will be ready in the next two months," ATDC managing director Anurag Singh told The Telegraph.
"The idea is to provide more clarity on the roles of the directorate and the corporation. While Assam Tourism's website is more of an informative portal, the corporation's is a technical one. The work of conversion of the websites into one has been done by a Delhi-based firm," Singh said.
The new website, www.assamtourism.gov.in, is currently maintained by Guwahati-based Web.Com (India).Visitors to the website can get information about the destinations in the state, which are divided into heads such as interests, districts and circuits. Under circuits, the website says, "Assam has been divided into six interesting circuits for the convenience of tourists. Each circuit is unique passing through different terrain giving one a unique experience."
Under districts, the website informs the viewer about the places to visit in the state's 35 districts while under interests, there is wildlife, tea and golf, rural charm, monsoon magic, adventure, historical monuments, among others.
A page on the new website helps browsers plan their vacations, both before and during the tour while another caters to the preferences of the visitors in regard to accommodation, be it a jungle stay, rural stay or a sojourn in a tea bungalow. Apart from an attractive photo gallery, there is also a page mentioning the names and addresses of the major tour operators of the region for the convenience of people who seek advice on their travel and the kind of packages they prefer.
"ATDC will become an interactive web page have its own utility but with no address domain," Singh said. The page mentioning the calendar of events is, however, under maintenance. "It will be sorted out soon," he said.
