Guwahati, Feb. 9: Assam Rifles, Tezpur, will clash with Oil India FC, Duliajan, in the final of the 3rd Airtel Assam State Premier League at Nehru Stadium here on Friday.
The Assam Rifles men today edged past Gauhati Town Club 4-2 via tiebreakers in the second semi-final at Nehru Stadium here.
After a barren regulation time, the match went into the penalty shootout where GTC missed the net twice.
While the shot by GTC’s foreign recruit Ikoroha Christian rebounded from the crosspiece, Assam Rifles custodian S. Lokeswor Meitei fisted away the shot by Ricky Lallawmawma to fashion the victory for his side.
Assam Rifles came under pressure first when their second shot by skipper Bulu Jigdung went away from the woodwork.
Success eluded Jigdung earlier, too, in the match when his tap off an Akum Ao pass from inside the goalbox rebounded from the woodwork in the 28th minute.
S. Kishan Singh and John Nanna found the net for GTC while Ajit Kumar Singh, Omana Kutlan, Abel Sema and Akum Ao struck for Assam Rifles.
Oil India FC yesterday edged into the final defeating ASEB in sudden death.
