Assam girl Lenien Jamir bags double crown

Lenien Jamir of Assam clinched double crowns in the AITA Championship Series under-16 Tennis Tournament at the All Assam Tennis Association complex here today. She won both the girls' singles and doubles titles.

Guwahati, April 27: Lenien Jamir of Assam clinched double crowns in the AITA Championship Series under-16 Tennis Tournament at the All Assam Tennis Association complex here today. She won both the girls' singles and doubles titles.

Top seed Jamir beat fifth seed Anaam Almas of Odisha 6-0, 6-1 for the singles title. Yesterday, she partnered Janashree Saikia, also of Assam, to beat second seed state tandem of Raina Jaffer and Neethi Baruah 4-0, 4-2 for the doubles crown.

In the singles semi-finals earlier today, Lenien beat Debangana Barkataky (Assam) 9-3 while Anaam upset second seed Assam girl Raina Zaffar 9-5. In the boys' singles Anurag Buragohain of Assam defeated Karan Baruah Das, also from Assam, 6-2, 6-0 to win the title. Anurag toppled top seed Ronit Bora, from Assam, 9-8 (1) in the semi-finals, while 16th seed Karan shocked second seed Jugal Baruah of Assam 9-2. Second seed Bengal pair of Mudit Bhagat and Arnab Banerjee won the boys' doubles title, defeating Assam boys Satyam Goswami and Snehal Nayan 2-4, 4-1, 7-1.

Body-building: Dhiraj Rajbongshi of Kamrup district emerged champion of champions in the first Mr Brahmaputra classic prize-money body building championship, organised by Barpeta District Body-builders' Association and Pathsala Body-building Association at Bhagawati Khetra in Pathsala on Saturday.
