Guwahati: A rally will be held by 180 farmers and social organisations of the country at Dighalipukhuri here on Sunday, the All India Kisan Sangharsh Co-ordination Committee, Assam, said on Thursday.

The organisation, which represents five farmers' organisations of the state, including the Assam Committee of the All India Kisan Sabha, Assam State Krishak Sabha (part of Nikhil Bharat Krishak Sabha), Krishak Mahasabha, All India Kisan Mazdoor Sangathan and the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, said the rally was a part of the ongoing countrywide Krishak Mukti Yatra programme.

The committee said the rally would raise several demands related to farmers' welfare like fixing a minimum support price for farmers' produce by adding a 50 per cent profit to the cost of production, all farmers' debts write-off, confirming land rights of farmers, announcing the flood and erosion problem of Assam as a national problem and providing rehabilitation and compensation to those affected by floods.

The secretary of the Assam State Krishak Sabha Tiken Das said, "At present there is a peasant revolution going on in the states of Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Tamil Nadu to protest the high prices of fertilizers, seeds, pesticides and electricity. A farmers' convention in Delhi had decided to launch a Krishak Mukti Yatra across the country. The programme will culminate at Dighalipukhuri on Sunday," Das added.
