Assam blank out Jharkhand - Tripura defeat Orissa by 10 runs

Dibrugarh, Oct. 22: Hosts Assam registered a 5-wicket victory over Jharkhand in a match of the BCCI East Zone Inter-State Women’s (Under-19) One Day Cricket Tournament played at Tinsukia District Sports Association stadium today.

Winning the toss, Assam decided to field. Jharkhand, who had performed poorly during their opening match against Tripura on Wednesday, continued with their weak performance and the team was bundled out for just 56 runs in 40.2 overs.

Monika Murmu topscored with 13 while Annapurna Pandit made 11. The team got 15 runs as extras. For Assam, off-spinner Jyoti Sarma captured three wickets for five in 8.2 overs. Manika Das and Anita Lodhi took two wickets each giving away six and 14 runs.

In reply, Assam reached their target in 24.3 overs losing five wickets. Manika Das scored 13. Assam also got 18 runs as extras, which included 16 wides. For Jharkhand, Shiela Boipai captured three wickets giving away 14 runs in her seven overs while Monorama Toppo took one for 15.

Assam got five points including a bonus point today while Jharkhand is yet to open their account.

In another match of the day at the Dibrugarh District Sports Association outdoor stadium, Tripura defeated Orissa by 10 runs. The match was curtailed to 30 overs each as the outfield remained wet due to overnight showers. Tripura won the toss and decided to bat, scoring 56 in 29.1 overs. Riju Saha topscored with 10 off 31 balls. Sonali Dev Verma scored 8 and Moutushi Dey 7. Orissa spinner Rasanara Parveen picked up three wickets for 16 while Sunita Singh took two for 15 . In reply, the Orissa folded up at 46, losing all wickets in 27.1 overs.

Priyanka Sahu scored 16 while Swagatika Rath made 9.

For Tripura, spinner Annapurna Das picked up four wickets for five while Sujata Roy took two for one. With today’s win, Tripura got 4 points.

On Sunday, Jharkhand will play Orissa in Dibrugarh while Bengal plays Tripura in Tinsukia.
