Jorhat, Nov. 10: ASEB Sports Club, Guwahati, blanked defending champions Oil India Duliajan 3-0 in the second semi-final of the 50th ATPA Shield football tournament at Jorhat Stadium here.

The match was evenly poised in the first half till maverick striker Chayaram Basumatary helped ASEB take the lead two minutes before lemon break.

The second half, too, saw a similar trend with neither team able to score till the 84th minute.

The fleet-footed Dipankar Sarkar made it 2-0 six minutes before the end of regulation time.

The OIL forwards tried their best but the opponents’ goalkeeper saved their shots at the goal. However, the lack of finishing cost them dear.

The powermen gained the upper hand with the lead.

Chayaram made full use of a defence lapse to score ASEB’s third goal in the eighth minute.

Having sealed a berth in the final without conceding a goal in the semi-finals, the powermen will be upbeat when they face Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Siliguri in the title clash tomorrow afternoon.

The Siliguri side, too, are on a high after their 4-1 victory on Green Valley Sports Club, Guwahati, in the first semi-final.
