Voice of India Debojit Saha writes about personal and professional highs
March 20, 2010. It could turn out to be another eventful day in my life. Just like the one when I won the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa contest or the one when I was blessed with a daughter. This is the day the final of the most popular TV reality music show in recent times, Music Ka Maha Muqabla, will take place.
With a thrilling contest between Shaan’s Strikers and Shankar’s Rockstars on the cards, the final will be beamed live from Mumbai. Expectedly, I am excited and nervous at the same time, not knowing what will unfold. But I am going to give it my best shot so that we win the crown for my team — Shaan’s Strikers.
As you all know, hard work alone is not enough. Luck is equally important to one’s success. As such, I would appeal to you, as I have done in the past, to cheer my team, me and my captain, by watching the final and showering your blessings on us. Your blessings and love have made me what I am today. I strongly believe that if a man has these, he can surmount any odds.
Besides the run-up to the final of this show, another special event came and went by; something I would cherish forever. It was my daughter’s first birthday party, which was held on February 14.
Though she was born on February 9, we could not celebrate because of my preoccupation with the reality show. However, the delay in celebrations turned out to be a blessing in disguise as the event was extremely memorable.
I decided to host the party at Club Link in Malad West on Valentine’s Day to mark the occasion. This was the first party I was throwing in Mumbai. In fact, the first one ever in the true sense of the word.
It was a great party because guests like Shaan, Mika, MP Sanjay Nirupam, music director Pritam’s family, Big Boss participants Diana Hayden and Ashutosh graced it.
In all, 200 guests attended the party that started at 7pm and ended after midnight.
Everybody had a great time, dancing and singing. But for me, it was extra special because so many of my friends in Bollywood turned up despite my being a rank newcomer. It is always a special feeling — to be loved and made to feel wanted. I now know I have been accepted.
I would also like to mention that I would be visiting Assam this Bihu, performing for fans and well-wishers back home.
But don’t forget to tune in to the biggest fight, Music Ka Maha Muqabla, on March 20. Wish me luck.
