Guwahati, July 31: He is all of 12 and has already acquired a bag of enviable praise from the likes of Alka Yagnik and Abhijeet — not to speak of a veritable fan following.
Abhigyaan Das, among the six finalists in this year’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs, the musical reality show on Zee TV, has conquered the country with his soulful renditions but when it came to asking for blessings, the boy turned to his home state Assam.
A resident of Duliajan in Upper Assam, Abhigyaan — flanked by his parents — made a passionate appeal to everyone to support him.
Currently in Guwahati, the boy wonder gushed about his Sa Re Ga Ma Pa experience. “I am enjoying the moment and confident of doing well but at the same time I am a bit tense,” said Abhigyaan, who has given power-packed performances every time to secure a position among the top six in the reality show.
Given Assam’s track record in reality shows, Abhigyaan has quite a chance.
Before him, Anamika Choudhury of Mariani won the title a couple of years ago while Debojit Saha won the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa championship earlier.
Amit Paul of Shillong, too, went to the finals of Sony TV’s Indian Idol but had to be content with the runners-up title.
“I am leaving no stone unturned and have been practising hard for days now to ensure my victory,” Abhigyaan added.
An avid fan of Kishore Kumar and Zubeen Garg, Abhigyaan began singing when he was just five.
The Class VII student of Maharishi Vidya Mandir in Guwahati, he was also last year’s champion of Zee Bangla’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa SaatSurer Rup Katha. Love for music runs in Abhigyaan’s family. His father, Subrata Kumar, is a violin player while mother, Anita, is a radio artiste.
Subrata also runs a music school — Symphony Kala Niketan — at Duliajan and even his grandmother Subhashini, who is in her nineties, is an accomplished singer.
Abhigyaan’s younger brother Shyamantan was adjudged the first runner up in this year’s Duet Champs in Zee Bangla.
“Since early childhood, he was fond of singing and with everybody’s blessings he will definitely win the show,” his father said.
“He is the only contestant from Assam in the show who has made it to the final six. If he wins the title, it will be a proud moment for all of us,” his mother said.
