Guwahati, Sept. 21: The Amri Karbi National Council today asked Assam governor P.B. Acharya to exclude six constituencies of the Tiwa Autonomous Council under Dimoria block in Kamrup (metro) district.
After a protest programme in front of Raj Bhavan, the council and five other Amri Karbi organisations submitted a memorandum to Acharya with their demand.
"Though Amri Karbi comprises 70 per cent of the total population, the government extended Tiwa Autonomous Council to Dimoria tribal block by creating 6 constituencies for 3 per cent Tiwa people only," the memorandum said.
The recent Tiwa council election was not held in Dimoria because of protests from the Amri Karbi community.
The organisations said the government is transferring land of the tribal belt and block of Dimoria to people from other communities, violating the Constitution.
