Guwahati, Oct. 22: Four promising Assam girls have been named in the Indian under-19 girls’ football team for the AFC qualifiers to be held in Kuala Lumpur from October 29 to November 7, while six under-16 boys have been named among the national probables for the season ahead.

The girls who have been named in the 22-member national side include defenders Narmada Basumatary, Pallabita Borah, Romila Kall and midfielder Sabita Narzary.

“This is a good sign that Assam girls, too, have made the cut in a game where Manipur had been a dominating force for the last few decades. We feel proud to be among the forces to be reckoned with,” said Assam Football Association secretary Ankur Dutta.

The six under-16 boys are Rajib Boro, Subhanga Daimari, Pabitra Narzary, Abhijit Duarah, Holicharan Narzary and Rabiram Koch.

Federation Cup

The AFA is also going to host the Group C preliminary knockout round matches of the 30th Federation Cup tournament in Silchar from November 21 to 25.

“We have decided to host the matches in Silchar in view of the acute crisis of ground here,” Dutta said.

State tournaments: The under-21 Inter-district football championship will be held at Mariani from the second week of November while the senior inter-district championships will commence in the third week of December.

The first edition of the Assam State Premier League is expected to take off in January. The apex tournament will be held in Guwahati as well as in an Upper Assam venue, Dutta said today. The Assam Club Championship will be held in Karimganj in February.
