4 from Assam in singles' finals

Guwahati: Four Assam players booked berths in the finals of the singles events in under-12 and under-14 AITA Championship Series Tennis Tournament under way at the All Assam Tennis Association Complex here.

The four include under-12 boys' second seed Jigyashman Hazarika and third seed Manan Nath, who will face each other in the final on Friday, under-12 girls' sixth seed Snigdha Patibandla and under-14 boys' top seed Andy Thaosen.

In the semi-finals, Manan upset top seed Keshav Goel of Bengal 6-3, 6-2, while Jigyashman eased past another Bengal boy Mayand Tiwary 6-2, 6-1. Manan and Jigyashman on Thursday lifted the under-14 boys' doubles crown, defeating Derek Saha of Maharashtra and Samarth Sahita of Bengal 6-3, 6-2 in the final.

In the under-12 girls' singles, Snigdha upset second seed Bengal girl Sumeira Jaiswal 6-2, 6-3 to set up the title clash with top seed Sohini Sanjay Mohanty of Odisha who overcame fifth seed Assam girl Namrata Das 6-0, 2-6, 6-2 in the semi-finals.

Andy entered the under-14 boys' final after seventh seed Manan conceded their semi-final encounter trailing 6-4, 1-0. Andy will face sixth seed Manipur boy Bhicky Sagolsem who upset third seed Jigyashman Hazarika of Assam 6-3, 6-4 in the semi-finals. The under-14 girls' singles semi-finals witnessed upsets with unseeded Jyoti Pratap of Bihar shocking fourth seed Sumeira Jaiswal of Bengal 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 to set up final clash with third seed Sohini S. Mohanty of Odisha to topple top seed Tanishqa Patar of Assam 6-3, 1-6, 7-6(7).

Vijaytej Gangapatnam of Meghalaya and J.H. Lalhruaizela of Mizoram annexed the boys' under-14 doubles title, defeating the Manipur pair of Bhicky Sagolsem and Ashwajit Senjam 6-0, 5-7, 10-8.
