Remember those math problems in school which left your head reeling and your mouth gaping wide? Turns out Roald Dahl was all too familiar with this feeling, so much so, that he coined a word for it! Biffsquiggled is a combination of the words ‘biff’, meaning punch, and ‘squiggle’, meaning an illegible scrawl, usually typical of hasty writing. Originally appearing in The BFG, the word captures the feeling of being so confused that it is as if your brain is reeling from a punch that has left it utterly disoriented and ‘squiggly’!
