Few books have brought the wildest fantasies of children to life like Ronald Dahl’s 1964 novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which followed a young boy who wins a contest to tour the world’s most coveted chocolate factory. The universe was expanded upon by the 2005 film, and while we all related to Charlie’s starry eyed wonder at seeing all the chocolatey magic around him, there was a far greater enigma surrounding Johnny Depp’s Willy Wonka, the factory’s mysterious owner. In order to answer all our questions about how Willy actually became the chocolate connoisseur we grew to love, Warner Bros. is bringing a character-centric spin-off, Wonka, which tells the story of how he travelled the world for years in the pursuit to create the best chocolate. The film’s stunning trailer released this week, unveiling Timothée Chalamet in the titular role. It also has Hugh Grant, Rowan Atkinson and Olivia Colman coming together to create an epic fantasy, unlike any other. Set to release this Christman, we already can’t wait.
