What’s Halloween without tuning into a few horror flicks? In order to save you time spent scrolling through titles, we compiled a small list that goes beyond simply scaring you...

  • The Conjuring is undoubtedly one of the most terrifying films ever made. The paranormal adventures of the Perron family in a dingy farmhouse go from being ‘ickie’ to downright bone-chilling. The score is also a masterpiece in inducing both intrigue and jump-scares.
  • While the sequel/spin-off may have audiences divided, few films got more love than Bhool Bhulaiyaa did. Everything about the film has achieved cult status, from the Rajpal Yadav ‘Paani’ gag to Akshay Kumar in the classic yellow and orange kurta. And despite multiple rewatches, Vidya Balan’s turn as Monjulika and her ghungroo dance to Ami Je Tomar continue to give us chills.
  • Stree perfectly blends chaotic paranoia and comedy in a tale about a female ghost who only abducts men during a religious festival. Rather than toning down the impact, the horror and humour elevate each other, and the Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor-starrer doesn’t shy away from journeying into the darker aspects of both genres, something quite rare in Bollywood.
  • Based on a mockumentary of the same name, What We Do in the Shadows geniusly subverts every trope about the horror genre. Documenting the day-to-day (or night-to-night) lives of four vampires living in present-day NYC, the show finds hilarity in everything spooky, from their dingy costumes to the blood-sucking. A great way to recover after the other horror-inducing titles on the list.
