No one does Diwali quite like the Raichands; from elaborate song-and-dance routines to fist-sized laddoos, they had it all and K3G helmer Karan Johar clearly aced Bollywood’s Diwali memo. Rahul Raichand’s (Shah Rukh Khan) homecoming (in a helicopter, no less) makes the film’s Diwali sequence even more memorable as his elated mother Nandini Raichand (Jaya Bachchan) rushes to greet him at the door. The Diwali sequence didn’t just feature the title track but also served as an introduction to the Raichand family and set the stage for the events to follow.
With a star-studded cast that also included Amitabh Bachchan, Kajol, Kareena Kapoor and Hrithik Roshan, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham broke many records on its opening day and went on to become one of Bollywood’s biggest films ever. This year, celebrate the festival of lights by gathering your loved ones around the TV and settling in for three and a half hours of some classic family drama.
