Ever since it went into development, ‘83’ has been the subject of endless speculation. The trailer for the December 24 release finally dropped on Tuesday, and it has only piqued everyone’s interest.
Director Kabir Khan had his work cut out for him, adapting India’s first global cricketing triumph which holds great sentimental value for audiences. However, Khan seems to have aced the look and feel of the underdogs-turned-champions story, perfectly capturing the moods of a frantic crowd in a stadium. The cast also brings their A-game - Ranveer Singh plays the role of Captain Kapil Dev, and his real-life wife, Deepika Padukone stars as Romi Bhatia, Dev’s wife. Pankaj Tripathi as team manager PR Man Singh, Tahir Raj Bhasin as Sunil Gavaskar and Saqib Saleem as Mohinder Amarnath also show promise.
Beyond the big names and high production value, ‘83’ exudes promise as a story of a team that achieved a huge milestone despite odds. Hopefully, the trailer is just a peek of what is to come.
