With the latest James Bond flick, No Time To Die, dropping this weekend, this would also be a good time to watch the film that started it all — Dr. No — almost 60 years ago. The success of this adaptation, way back in 1962, forged the path for future films and made what could easily have been a caricature-like character, look suave and realistic on the big screen.
Sean Connery effortlessly slips into the charming agent’s shoes and owns every frame he is in. The stylised production makes the ’60s come alive and the narrative manages to keep you hooked despite being creaky in parts.
The film also feels like a nostalgic dive into the legacy of all that makes Bond films great, introducing the iconic theme music, the gun barrel perspective shot and many other tropes that we still see in the film series.
