Sunday Classics: ‘Crooked House’ on Netflix
Nothing like a crisp Christie whodunit on a Sunday

It’s the perfect Sunday for an Agatha Christie country house murder mystery, so make yourself a cuppa joe because the cinematic adaptation of Christie’s novel Crooked House just dropped on Netflix. The 2017 mystery film by Gilles Paquet-Brenner follows the extremely wealthy but dysfunctional Leonides family following the death of their patriarch, Aristide Leonides.
If the premise sounds too similar to Rian Johnson’s Knives Out, that’s because Johnson borrowed several influences from the classic whodunit genre for his own film. Crooked House is peak Agatha Christie - there’s a poisoned patriarch, a sub-plot involving former lovers, an illicit affair and quite a bit of bird shooting. The terrific Glenn Close stars as Aristide's sister-in-law Lady Edith de Haviland and Mad Men star Christina Hendricks plays Aristide’s much younger second wife who’s a prime suspect in his murder.
Crooked House is streaming now on Netflix.
