Srijit reveals release date of his Mrinal Sen biopic
‘Padatik’ follows the journey of the critically acclaimed director

Two years ago, Srijit Mukherji had sent Instagram into a tizzy, announcing that he was working on a biopic around the life of legendary director Mrinal Sen. Last month, he shared Padatik's first teaser with fans, with many gushing over how Chanchal Chowdhury had aced Sen’s look and feel. After much anticipation, Mukherji finally revealed August 15 as the release date on Instagram, along with a new poster of the film. The day adds even more significance to this film, given Sen’s political stances that were deeply embedded in his cinema. The film is expected to not just explore the Padma Bhushan awardee’s ideologically charged films, but also his depiction of the city. It is no coincidence that Mukherji named this biopic after Sen’s 1973 film, which along with Interview and Calcutta 71 forms his much-acclaimed Calcutta Trilogy.
