Back in the day, Sonic was one of the most popular video game characters, second only to Mario. While the blue anthropomorphic hedgehog’s fandom shrunk considerably at the turn of the century, Sonic raced back into hearts with the 2020 film, Sonic the Hedgehog. We finally have a trailer for the film’s sequel, which was released at The Game Awards.
The trailer features Sonic adjusting to his life on Earth while preparing to confront a new threat that can destroy entire civilizations. The makers seem to have taken a cue from the first film’s winning formula, doubling down on the humour. Ben Schwartz is adorable as the titular character and he is ably supported by Jim Carrey’s Dr Robotnik and Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails, but the real zinger is Idris Elba’s introduction as Knuckles! The gorgeous animation that blurs the line between VFX and live-action makes the wait till April, 2022 even harder.
