Jerrod Carmichael’s Saturday Night Monologue was not just timely but also super relatable. The comedian began his hilarious six-minute monologue by saying, “I'm not going to talk about it.” The studio audiences and viewers across the world obviously understood immediately that he was talking about The Slap. The 38-year-old stand-up comedian who recently came out as gay on his HBO comedy special Rothaniel, dove headfirst into the ongoing controversy about the altercation between Will Smith and Chris Rock at this year’s Oscars.
“This happened a week ago! Doesn't it feel like it happened years ago? Like doesn't it feel like it happened when we were all in high school? Like it feels like it happened between Jamiroquai and 9/11. A long, long time ago. It happened on Sunday. Sunday! It's Saturday, bro,” Carmichael joked. The comedian ended his monologue by urging Barack Obama to talk about The Slap. “You need to talk about it because the nation needs to heal,” he said into the camera, as the audience erupted with laughter.
