‘Scenes from a Marriage’ HBO remake

In 1973, Ingmar Bergman’s Swedish TV miniseries about the crumbling of a marriage over a decade, shaped how the tension in love stories would be told for years to come.

This HBO remake stars Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain as the central couple struggling with their relationship, and premiered at the 2021 Venice Film Festival.

While there is a gender-role flip, the first two episodes preserve Bergman’s Swedish essence in a distinctly American setting, and the chemistry of the central duo manages to make every emotion from the script come alive. Both Isaac and Chastain deliver exceptional performances and we can’t wait to see how this five-part series examines modern day marital problems over the next three episodes left to air.
