If you’re looking for a film to watch outside the gamut of CGI-infused action or song-and-dance routines, catch a screening of Adieu GODARD at your nearest theatre. The premise is outrageously novel: an old porn-addict accidentally brings home a DVD of a Godard film, and falls in love with his cinema, going on to organise a film festival in his village.
Written and directed by Amartya Bhattacharyya, this Odia independent film has been a darling of the festival circuit, winning the Best Film award at the 27th Kolkata International Film Festival. Slightly convoluted at parts, this film is an honest attempt to show all that is beautiful about cinema, and its representation of society.
