There is quite possibly no bigger star in Punjab today, than Diljit Dosanjh. In the ’80s, this stature was held by Amar Singh Chamkila, who had a fantastical rags to riches story, and became one of the biggest singers of the state before he was assassinated at the tender age of 27.
Dosanjh is set to bring his compelling story to life in Chamkila, directed by Imtiaz Ali. The recently released teaser of the film shows him step into Amar Singh Chamkila’s boots with perfection, although the actor looks remarkably different without a turban. The film also stars Parineeti Chopra as Amarjot, Chamkila’s singing partner and wife. With music by the legendary AR Rahman, this Netflix original promises to be worth the wait.
