Shree Venkatesh Films (SVF) has dropped a teaser of Kabuliwala, an adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s timeless tale. Introducing the lead role, the teaser reveals actor Mithun Chakraborty adorning a pathani suit, waistcoat and turban with eyes lined with surma.
Tagore’s Kabuliwala, written in 1892 was first made into a film in Bengali in 1957 by Tapan Sinha starring Chabi Biswas as Rehman and Oindrila Tagore as Mini. In 1962 it was remade in Hindi by director Hemen Gupta.
As SVF's new flick releases in December 2023, it will be interesting to see how director Suman Ghosh invokes nostalgia in the audience with this tale of innocence and emotion. The buzz around says that the movie will have no similarities with the real story and Mithun Chakraborty will interpret the main character in his ‘own way’.
