Babu’s 34th was a hoot, with celebrities pouring into Alipore Zoo

German-born chimpanzee, Babu, has been stealing hearts in Alipore Zoo since 1998. On October 26, the city celebrated his 34th birthday with pomp, as the chimp danced with joy upon seeing his favourite fruits and vegetables. Sohini Sengupta and Saptarshi Moulik, Babu’s adopted parents, were all smiles during the celebration, which was joined by Swastika Mukherjee and Mir Afsar Ali. A clip Mir posted on Facebook is winning hearts, showing Babu jumping around his enclosure to the cheers of onlookers, occasionally throwing chunks of his birthday treat to them!
