Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming directorial venture Belfast is the story of a child growing up amid the Northern Ireland conflict of the late 1960s, also known as The Troubles.

The film dominated the festival circuit and is being touted as Branagh’s most personal film yet. The thespian who has previously directed Thor, Cinderella and Murder on the Orient Express has referred to the film as a ‘dramatic journey of excitement, emotion and humour’. The black-and-white comedy-drama stars Judi Dench, Caitríona Balfe, Jamie Dornan, Ciarán Hinds, Colin Morgan, with Jude Hill making his debut as the central character.

The stunning monochrome 2:20 minute trailer has already garnered 3.8 million views on YouTube. The film is scheduled to release next month in the United States, and in February 2022 in the United Kingdom.
