Aparna Sen’s new film, The Rapist, premiered and was nominated for the Kim Jiseok Award, at the Busan International Film Festival. The film revolves around the life of a rape survivor and how her life changes after that one incident. Sen has handled this sensitive topic expertly — demanding empathy from the viewer.

Konkona Sensharma plays the role of the rape survivor — depicting the turmoil one goes through, along with the intricacies of any legal battle involved for a crime of this nature. Arjun Rampal plays the victim’s husband. His tense chemistry with Sensharma is evident and visualises the strain an incident like this puts on a relationship. The titular rapist is played by Tanmay Dhanania.
