Whoever said adults don’t need bedtime stories clearly has no imagination. A monster story read out loud by a beloved sorceress can help soothe your overworked mind. Anya Chalotra who plays Yennefer in Netflix’s The Witcher sat down with a big, fat unabridged version of Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher novel Blood of Elves and read out a rather gory passage from the 1994 novel.
“In this part of the story, Dandelion who you know as Jaskier is getting tortured,” Chalotra explains as she settles into her story-telling. In the novel, Dandelion, the bard is captured by the wizard Rience, for information about Ciri. Dandelion is saved by the timely arrival of Yennefer, who has to fight Rience in a magic duel that ends up scarring the wizard.
If you can’t stop doomscrolling before bed, grab your headphones and maybe a hot chocolate and let Yennefer’s voice lull you into a peaceful sleep.
